Tracking real bookings, not just clicks
Client: an Australian cosmetic dental practice whose online bookings run through a booking platform on a separate domain.
The problem
GA4 and Google Ads only counted clicks through to the booking page. A click isn't a booked patient, so the ads were optimising for interest rather than appointments — and there was no way to tell which campaigns actually filled the diary.
What we did
Set up cross-domain tracking so the main site and the booking site are measured as one visit instead of two unrelated ones. Then tracked the booking confirmation itself as the conversion in GA4 and Google Ads, so the thing being counted is the appointment, not the click that led to it.
The result
domains measured as one patient journey
conversion that counts: the confirmed booking
clicks mistaken for appointments
The practice can now see which ads bring in patients, and Google Ads optimises toward real bookings.
